An introduction to gothic art and various aspects of gothic art

Gothic art is a movement that started in France in the twelfth
century. The movement continued to spread through Europe until the
sixteenth century when the style was integrated into renaissance art.
Gothic art was expressed through architecture, panel painting, stained
glass and many other forms of art.

In its earliest forms, Gothic art was expressed through religious
sculptures and paintings. These pieces depicted scenes from the bible as
well as the key figures that were the subject of the stories. Since then
Gothic art has transformed and become one of the more macabre art forms.
Modern day Gothic art includes depictions of mythical creatures and is
usually painted in dark colors. |
